Hello! I'm Jay and I am a recent graduate of the University of Toronto physics specialist program and incoming Part III student at the University of Cambridge. My current academic and research passions resides in the field of topological quantum matter - the characterization and distinctions of phases of matter via topological properties extending beyond the Ginzberg-Landau paradigm and the emergence of long-range order. Additionally, I am interested in the emergent properties/quasiparticle descriptions of these systems and their possible connections to fundamental physics. Please feel free to take a look at my CV.
Currently, I am serving as a visiting research student at the University of Chicago under the supervision of professor Ruben Verresen (Harvard/MIT postdoctoral, 2024). We are primarily interested in studying various observable properties of a particular class of free fermion Hamiltonians under renormalization group flow in the language of an associated complex polynomial (see page 12 of his thesis). This work hopes to have applications in constructing classification schemes in the relevant Hamiltonian space as well as improving on previous renormalization procedures.
